ASA Coach,
Schedule Update

Mary Bevis' weekly update

All October 28 games scheduled on grass fields have been rescheduled to Saturday, November 11, 2006 – the rain date agreed upon by the Club Managers prior to the start of the season.

Check the schedule update.

Arlington Public Schools are off November 10 and November 13, which makes a four-day weekend. That might cause a problem for some teams fielding enough players.

U6 and above teams which know they will not be able to play the game on November 11 should contact their Club Manager to obtain the opposing coach’s contact information to let that team know the game won’t be played.

Goal! The Dream Begins

Time: 7:00 PM (Check-in 6:30 PM)

Roger Ebert's review:

"Goal! The Dream Begins" is a rags-to-riches sports saga containing all the usual elements, arranged in the usual ways, and yet it's surprisingly effective. -- The movie works because it is, above all, sincere."

Michelle Gardner-Quinn

ASA soccer player remembered

Michelle Gardner-Quinn’s untimely death has deeply saddened the ASA community who knew her and her family.

Michelle played on ASA soccer teams while growing up in Arlington. She played on my “Herricanes” girls recreational team during elementary school years and then with the Storm travel team on through high school.

She loved soccer. I remember when she was about 10 years old. She scored a goal one Saturday game and then yelled to her dad, John-Charles, on the sideline, “That goal’s for you Dad. Happy Birthday!”

Her soccer teammates and friends bid her farewell at last Saturday’s memorial service at H-B Woodlawn School.

The Rev. Bill Hoffman, Michelle's pastor at Arlington's Church of the Covenant, said it was not possible to change what had happened, "but we can change ourselves. We can also honor Michelle by taking up her cause. Let us begin to make those choices that will restore and protect the delicate balance of nature."

Memorial contributions for a scholarship in Environmental Studies may be made to:
