Schedule Update

Mary Bevis' weekly update

  • The U6 and U7 schedules are on the ASA web site.

  • Mary Bevis' weekly Schedule Update is linked below.

Mary notes, "Remind coaches and parents in the U8 and above divisions to look at the schedules where the number of teams in the division has changed. Adding or deleting a team changes the whole schedule, so it is most important for people look at the new schedule."

Pre-register your team to guarantee a place in the tournament.

Travel Players on Rec Teams

Coaches enforce limit on travel players for rec games.

Late last season, a coach wrote:

“We have noticed this season that a number of the U-13/14 teams have been fielding more than the allotted 4 travel players per game. In some cases, the boys tell me, we have seen 7-8.

This abuse is unfair and runs counter to the spirit and intent of club soccer:

  1. An unfair advantage.
  2. Too may travel players means too few control the ball and the play.
  3. Deprives others from playing.
  4. Teaches kids that rules can be broken without penalty."
ASA rules limit the number of travel players that can be “in uniform or participate in a scheduled game”.

The limit is 4 travel players for U13 and above teams and 3 for U10, U11 and U12 teams. There is no limit for U9 and younger teams.

The Three Evil L's

Avoid Lines, Laps, and Lectures

Tom Hart, North Texas State Staff Coach, writes, "Modern methods of coaching youth place emphasis on "game activities" rather than "drills". Game Activities are easily understood childhood games that have the element of a ball added."

ATSC Match of the Week

The Match of the Week highlights an Arlington Travel Soccer Club home game each week.

Grant Smith, ATSC Director of Coaching, says, "Recreational coaches are invited to watch the games and then stay for a chat with the ATSC coach."

The match this week features the ATSC U9 Boys Impact White playing the Prince William Soccer Inc. Courage White, on Sunday, 1:30, at Bluemont Junction.

Call Grant Smith at 703-868-8867 if you have questions.

ATSC also has open soccer practices if new coaches want to watch a travel team practice. The ATSC Practice Schedule is on the ATSC web site.

ATSC Coaches Game

The Arlington Travel Soccer Club raised over $1,000 for their scholarship fund at their annual coaches game on Saturday 9/9. The White team bested the Blue team by a score of 4-2.

Lost and Found

This is new section for The Coaches Corner.

People leave things at game and practice fields – equipment, clothing, phones, purses, etc. It’s probably best to leave items for families to return for them.

But, coaches or team managers may want to pick up valuable items or items at the end of the day and post it in this weekly newsletter read by every ASA coach.

The first found item is below:

  • A set of 12 keys, including a Toyota key, was found last weekend on a corner post at Fairlington.

Call Justin Wilt, manager of the South Arlington Soccer Club, at 571-432-7196, for more information.

The Arlington Soccer Association has soccer programs for kids ages 5 – 18 in Arlington and Falls Church.

Neighborhood recreational soccer teams for all boys & girls.
Teen soccer teams for all high school-age players.
Travel soccer teams for more competitive players selected in tryouts.
TOPSoccer brings the opportunity of learning and playing soccer to any boy or girl, 4 - 19, who has a mental or physical disability.

ASA youth soccer programs are sponsored in cooperation with the Arlington County Department of Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources and the Falls Church City Recreation & Parks Department.
