Each year the top travel soccer teams in the state face off over the course of several weeks in the State Cup tournament. This year, in the Under-12 Boys Division, Eagles Red of the Arlington Soccer Association (ASA), came out on top over 33 other teams to win the tournament.

The boys were true “road warriors”, with the misfortune of no home games. On April 21, Eagles defeated Loundon Black, 4-1. In the round of 16, Eagles defeated Braddock Road (BRYC), 6-2. A trip to Virginia Beach was up next, on May 5, to face a powerful Beach FC team that had not lost in over 30 games. This game was tied, 4-4, after 60 minutes of regulation and 20 minutes of extra time, but Eagles advanced on penalty kicks to reach the Final Four.

The Final Four was held in Virginia Beach (May 19-20). In the semi-final, Eagles faced a Southwestern Youth Association (SYA) team that had defeated them twice in league play over the past two seasons. This day was different, as the Eagles jumped out to a 3-0 lead and held on for a 4-2 win. This set up the State Final against Richmond Kickers on Sunday under rainy skies. A highly motivated Eagles team took some time to score, but once they did the goals came fast. The outcome was a 5-1 victory and a state championship.

Eagles Red players are Jonathan C, Carlos F, Nicholas G, Edison G, Sam G, Noah H, Marty H, Lincoln K, Dylan K, Mateo L, Garrett L, Ethan M, and Nick P. Head coach of Eagles Red is Jawed Sanie. Assistant coaches are Chris Smith and Jim Hanneschlager. Special Assistant for the Final Four was Mo Tayari, who was Head Coach of the team in Under-9 through Under-11.
