Arlington Soccer Association - Spring 2024 Calendar of Events for Coaches and Families

Practices: In early March, players and their families will be notified by the player's coach with the day, time and field where practices will be held.  If contact has not been made by mid-March please contact the appropriate Club Manager found under "Clubs" on the Arlington Soccer website

Games: 1st grade through High School teams generally have seven games scheduled on Saturdays beginning in September plus one Sunday game. Saturday game start times can begin at 8:00 and run until 6:30.  Depending on the number of teams in a division, two or more Sunday afternoon games could be scheduled.  Sunday games begin at 12:15 pm. Sample game dates are posted at the end of the calendar.

Kindergarten teams in the fall follow the same calendar but sometimes the first games weekend is used as a "Kinder fair" if new teams are still forming.  Saturday game start times can begin at 8:30 and run until 5:30. Depending on the number of teams in a division, one or more Sunday afternoon games could be scheduled. Sunday games begin at 12:15 pm.   Sample game dates are posted at the end of the calendar.

Rainouts: If rainouts occur, those games are automatically rescheduled on Sunday afternoons unless there is a full day of rainouts on grass fields, in which case games will be moved to the weekend in June, the rain dates. Requests will not be accepted for the automatically rescheduled rained out games. It is always a good idea to check the Arlington County inclement weather number, 703-228-4715 or the Falls Church inclement weather number, 703-248-5125, even on a sunny day when there have been recent rainy days, for field closures.

Spring 2024 Calendar of REGISTRATION Events for Coaches and Families

Please note:  Registration is not complete until you make your payment - - the date on which you make your payment is the date of your completed registration and will determine when your player is eligible to be placed on a team.   All registrants (including those requesting financial aid) must submit payment within designated deadline to be able to be placed on a team.

January 2-31: Return to Team - $120 per player (plus county fees). Returning players registering in January will be automatically returned to the team they were on the previous season (for example, for the spring 2024 season, players will be returned to the team they were on in the fall 2023 season). New players and those making a Special Request to change teams will be placed on teams in early/mid February based on the order in which they completed registration. Please note that players who did not play in the fall 2023 season are not eligible for "return to team" -- they will need to make a Special Request to be considered for placement on their team from spring 2023 and earlier.  However, Special Requests are filled in the order in which you register, so it is important to register as early as possible.

ALL players intending to play in the Rec Spring season should register in JANUARY if at all possible. Where space is limited, we place players in the order that they registered. This includes new players, AND returning Travel players in grades 1 to 4 - - the grades during which there are limitations to the numbers of travel players on rec teams.

February 1-29:  Return to Rec / Rec Registration Period - $130 per player (plus county fees). Completed registrations during this time should be placed on an available Rec team. Returning players: "Return to team" no longer applies.

March 1 - end:  Waitlist / Late Registration - $140 per player (plus county fees). Registrations completed during this period will be placed on the Waitlist. Team placement for Waitlist registrants will proceed as room is available. Please note that team placements may take place as late as the first scheduled games.

NOTE: The Spring 2024 schedule is complicated due to different Spring Break dates between APS and some local private schools. The first practice plan will be sent to coaches in late March and teams can practice as per their own schedule. Likewise, teams with a majority of players from schools with the later Spring Break will not have games the first weekend (April 6).

March 9 / 10:  Free coach education, including New Coach Orientation.

Mid March: Coaches of teams 1st grade and above will reach out to players' families.

Mid March: Divisions published.

Mid March: Coaches should know practice schedule and location.

March 18 (estimated):  Rec practices can start, 1st grade and above.

Late March:  Teams' game schedules posted on the Arlington Soccer Association website.

Early April: Kinders practices will start, date TBD.

Silent Soccer is a long-standing Arlington Soccer tradition where coaches and parents are not allowed to communicate with field players during games. This allows players to take the lead and assume field leadership roles. It is actually really fun and a great experience for kids and adults! As a great coach said, "Practice is for the coach; games are for the players."

Rec Kinder games schedule is the same except that in the fall the first weekend may be given over to a Kinder Festival. In the spring, it is usually the same as everyone else.

TIPS / RECOMMENDATIONS
  • All registrants should register early.
  • Date of payment determines date of registration completion/placement eligibility.  Your registration is not complete until your payment has been received.
  • K-2nd grades are recommended to register within the first days to increase possibility of placement with a specific team; teams are smaller and space is limited.
  • Special Requests are not guaranteed. Please be sure to enter full name of player/coach or team (Step 2.4).
  • Returning players who missed the previous season should enter team preference in special request box (Step 2.4).
  • Financial Aid requests are typically processed within 48hrs. If you are applying for aid, please make sure to register early, and complete your payment promptly in order to meet the deadlines above.
  • New players are required to submit proof of age within the registration or through a separate registration form ("Upload Proof of Age").
  • In addition to the assistance offered by Arlington Soccer, grant funding is available through Dick's Sporting Goods and All Kids Play to families who lack the resources to pay for youth sports. More information and applications can be found by clicking on the links above.
