As registration opens for the Fall 2012 season of Rec soccer, a few changes exist that you should know about.  Please read about these changes and then hit the link at the bottom to sign up for Fall soccer.

1 – PLAYER PLACEMENT:  There is a 2 week guaranteed return policy in place.  Basically, this means that returning players (from the Spring) in 3rd grade and older who register by July 6, 2012, will be automatically placed on their Fall 2012 team based on their Spring 2012 team placement.  All players will be placed on teams on a first-come, first-served basis, according to their registration date.  Roster spots cannot be held open for players who wait to register until later in the process.  In other words, register NOW to ensure you get a spot on your team from last season!

Please note – This does not include players who have played on a team outside of their correct group (now determined by current school grade).  All players who wish to play outside their current school grade group must contact the ASA Technical Director, Bob Bigney, to request alternate placement.  This must be done prior to being placed on a team’s roster.  Permission to play outside the correct school grade group will only be given if it is proven that the player’s needs will not be met by playing in the correct school grade group.

2 – FEE CHANGES:  The registration fee remains the same.  The Late Fee (which kicks in in late August) has gone up to $20.  Players receiving Financial Aid will pay less this season – just $30.

3 – AGE GROUP CHANGES:

- We’ve done away with the age-based groupings in favor of school grade groups.  Thus for example we no longer have U8 teams; instead, we have 2nd grade teams.

- There are now discrete 7th and 8th grade groups; formerly those two groups were combined

- The 1st grade group (formerly U7) is now split by gender instead of being coed

- The players’ school grade refers to the grade they will enter in the Fall, not the one they just left

- All age group formats and specific differences are laid out on this handy table

4 – UNIFORM CHANGES:  Starting with this Fall season, all players (up through 8th grade) will receive uniforms for free, covered by your registration cost (that is unchanged from last season).  All Rec clubs (not Teen teams) are introducing new uniforms for the Fall.  No longer will players or parents have to pay for uniforms.  Here’s how this works:

- In late August team coaches will pick up their team’s allotment of uniforms from a central location (details coming later)

- Coaches will distribute uniforms to players starting in late August and early September

- Players who register late or players who are assigned to a team that has given out its uniform allotment will go to a retail location (Soccer Kicks) to pick up the uniform.  To facilitate this, every registration triggers the sending of a Uniform Receipt email.  If the player cannot get the uniform from the coach, the player’s family will take a printed copy of the email to the retail location and exchange it for a uniform set.  No matter when you register, hold onto the Uniform Receipt email.

So, what are you waiting for? Here is the registration link for Rec soccer and other Fall programs.  Contact your teammates and get signed up now, and you will be set for the Summer and Fall.
