FAQs for TEEN SOCCER

Please take a look at these FAQs, and we hope to see you in Teen Soccer!  General ASA program FAQs can be found here.

1)    What’s the difference between the Teen Program and Recreational Program?
a.    The main difference is that all teams come under the Boys or Girls Teen Clubs (managed by Mauricio Coreas and Chris Siple, respectively).  These clubs are County-wide, rather than neighborhood-based.  This allows for more flexibility in setting up / maintaining teams as players grow.  It also allows us to more easily accommodate new players in the league.  Teams and divisions are formed out of these clubs; Essentially we’ve created a U-19 Boys and U-19 Girls club.

2)    How does my team handle uniforms?
a.    Similar to most current Rec clubs, individual Teen teams decide on their uniforms and pay for them on their own. Teen teams may opt to go with the uniform of one of the neighborhood clubs or choose a new, unique design.

3)    How are do we handle travel/HS players being on roster or field?
a.    Rules are the same as for U13/14 – a total of 5 travel players may be on the roster.  We don’t have any restrictions regarding players who also play for their high school team.

4)    How do I prevent my 13 year old from being run-over by 19 year old?
a.    We separate teams into age-based divisions, based on average age of players on the team. Typically we have 2 divisions, with the split between divisions roughly around average age of 15.
b.    It is important to note that, since we base our divisions on average age, we cannot guarantee that there won’t be a 19 year old vs. a 13 year old. We ask coaches, players, and parents, to use their best judgment about intensity of play, level of play, etc. in instances where there might be a large age discrepancy on the field.

5)    Any rule differences?
a.    Yes! Teen games are refereed by 3 refs instead of just one.
b.    Another rule gives ASA staff or officials the right to request ID from any player. The player must produce ID either that day, or prior to the next game. Failure to do so would result in that player being declared an ineligible player. Ineligible player sanctions would be applied to the previous game.

6)    When are games held?
a.    Games are scheduled just like Rec games, with most games on Saturdays (and an occasional Sunday or weeknight). The majority of Teen games are played on artificial turf fields.

7)    Any cost difference?
a.    Not at all! The same low registration cost as Rec soccer applies!

8)    My kids are now friends with a specific player, so can we change teams to play with that player?
a.    Absolutely. The beauty of Teen Soccer is the flexibility in setting up teams. Players simply state their preferences when they register. Our club managers honor these requests as best as they can (though there are no guarantees of placement). They formulate teams, or place ‘new’ teens on teams, based on ages, requests, and geography. It is important to note that, as in Rec, we operate on a first come first served basis, so register early!
