Arlington Soccer encourages positive sideline behavior

Arlington Soccer encourages positive sideline behavior

The Arlington Soccer Association asks for positive sideline behavior from all spectators. Arlington Soccer reminds adults the influence you have on our young players - rec, travel, ADP and more - along with our youth referees. Please be good role models for all when attending our games. (Please refer to our players, parents and coaches' codes of conducts.)

It is essential to remember that youth sports events are about the children's development, enjoyment, and learning valuable life skills such as teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship. The behavior of the spectators should reflect the positive and supportive environment that we want to create for our children.

Unfortunately, some parents and spectators become too emotionally invested in the game and forget that the players are children who are still learning and developing. This kind of behavior can range from yelling at referees (who are often children), coaches, and players to engaging in verbal or physical altercations with other spectators.

This kind of behavior can have a lasting impact on children's sports experience and can discourage them from participating in sports altogether. It is essential to remember that the behavior of the adults on the sideline can either enhance or detract from the experience of the children on the field.

We would like to urge all parents and spectators to remember the following:
• Encourage and support all players, not just your child
• Cheer for the team and applaud without using the names of the player(s)
• Respect the decisions made by referees and coaches, even if you do not agree with them
• Refrain from using profanity or engaging in confrontations with other spectators
• Never enter the field of play unless you have received permission from the referee
• Remember that the focus is on the children's development, not winning at all costs.
