Arlington Soccer joining Women's Premier Soccer League

ARLINGTON, Va. (Feb. 7, 2024) – The Arlington Soccer Association will join the Women’s Premier Soccer League beginning with the 2024 season.

The longest running women's soccer league, the WPSL is entering its 26th season. Consisting of more than 125 clubs in 35 states, the WPSL solidifies itself as the largest women's soccer league in the world and features elite collegiate, post-collegiate, international and standout prep athletes. Arlington Soccer will be the second Virginia-based expansion for the 2024 season joining nearby Alexandria Soccer Association.

“We could not be more thrilled to be joining the Women’s Premier Soccer League – the longest active women’s soccer league in the  country,” Arlington Soccer executive director Frank DeMarco said. “Joining the WPSL will provide our players with the  opportunities to not only play at the highest level but also continue to develop and strengthen their skill sets.”

For the 2024 season, Arlington Soccer will compete against four other teams from Virginia and Washington D.C. in the District  Division of the Atlantic Conference. The club has confirmed George Hales as its inaugural head coach. Hales coached the club's Pro-23 women's team in 2023 and is currently the Zone 2 and 3 director for the Elite Futsal Academy presented by Dogtopia.

Hales joins Arlington Soccer after spending five years with the Washington Spirit of the NWSL where he served in roles from  assistant technical director and reserves head coach. Hales holds a USC Premier Diploma, USC Futsal License, USSF A License and a  master’s degree in business administration.

The WPSL is set to unveil the official 2024 schedule in March.
