The first two weekends of November saw six girls and boys teams advance to the finals of state tournaments. Three teams competed in the Virginia Youth Soccer Association's (VYSA) President's Cup final and three participated in the US Club Soccer Virginia State Cup final.
The 2008 Girls White (coached by Candace Chapman) captured the U16 Girls VYSA President's Cup state championship. The girls scored in overtime on a goal by Mia Moret for a 1-0 victory over VSA on Nov. 5 in Fredericksburg. With the win, 2008 Girls White advances to the US Youth Soccer Eastern President's Cup, which will be held in June 2024 in West Virginia.
Later that day, the 2008 Girls Red (coached by Grant Smith) rallied in exciting fashion to win the U16 Elite Girls division in the US Club Soccer Virginia State Cup. Trailing 2-0 at halftime, 2008 Girls Red scored three times late in regulation, with two goals by Moira Kinsella and the game winner from Bridie Meehan with less than five minutes! The ladies punched their ticket to the US Club Soccer National Cup XXIII Finals in July in Denver.
Joining them in Denver will be the 2009 Boys Red, who defeated Beach FC 2-1 on Nov. 12 in Woodbridge to win the U15 Elite Boys division of the Virginia State Cup championship. Coached by Mohamed Bennani, the boys took a 1-0 lead into halftime on a header from Charles Griffith after a brilliant cross on a free kick from Ryan Klinger. Jacob Peale then added the insurance on a penalty kick goal in the second half.
